Copts send SMS messages to Sohag voters steering them against the constitution
Sohag – Hossam Abdel-Razeq
This evening saw a gradual increase in voter turnout at referendum polling stations in the majority of provinces [marakez] in Sohag.
Copts sent mobile phone SMS messages directing voters against the constitution the content of which read, “so we don’t have an Islamic state…we want a Coptic state…vote no”. They also telephoned a large number of citizens and presented them with false articles that are not actually in the constitution in order to convince them to vote no.
The armed forces and the police increased their numbers outside polling stations in order to secure referendum polling stations. This is in light of the more than 600 NGO monitors authorised by the National Council for Human Rights to monitor the referendum voting process in the governorate’s provinces.
